Florida Sea Grant publishes information on anchoring in Florida

Florida Sea Grant has published a booklet titled Anchoring Away: Government Regulation and Rights of Navigation in Florida, authored by Thomas T. Ankersen, Richard Hamann, and Byron Flagg. The booklet addresses the federal, state, and local regulatory regime for anchoring in Florida, which has been in intense flux and dispute in recent years. In addition, the report explores the reasons that communities have created anchoring regulations that are in addition to international, federal, and state law, and how they impact boaters. The new Florida managed mooring fields are explained, along with the potential they have for impacting the regulation of anchoring in the vicinity of the mooring fields. The booklet is available as a download here.
