Extreme Sailing Series 2011

Sailingseries

The Extreme Sailing Series, one of four circuits with the International Sailing Federation Special Event Status, now includes the Extreme 40-class catamarans. The Extreme Sailing Series is committed to the class as its main act until at least January 2013. The event attracts sailors from a wide range of disciplines, racing in many different formats with a public viewing staged in a stadium-style venue.

Over the last year Extreme Sailing Series events have included conventional long course windward/leeward races, coastal courses, 15-minute close-combat stadium races, one-on-one speed duels and match racing.

The “typical” 2011 Extreme Sailing Series event will consist of five days of racing as opposed to three last year with an 11-boat limit in place. The 2010 circuit saw visits to France, the U.K., Germany, Italy, with a finale in Spain. The 2011 series will include a minimum of eight events and a maximum of 10 between March and December 2011, with stadium-style venues held in Europe, Middle East, Far East and the U.S.
