(STONINGTON, Conn.) — The Coast Guard Foundation, a nonprofit organization committed to the education and welfare of all Coast Guard members and their families, announced Wednesday that it will hold its annual Houston Awards Dinner at the Marriott Marquis in Houston, Texas, on Thursday, Nov. 1. At the event, the Coast Guard Foundation will honor Chevron Corp. with the 2018 Coast Guard Foundation Guardian Award, to be accepted by Michael Wirth, chairman and chief executive officer.

The Coast Guard Foundation’s Guardian Award recognizes individuals, companies and organizations who have provided significant support, or have demonstrated exemplary commitment to the Coast Guard Foundation, U.S. Coast Guard personnel and families, or to other service members of the U.S. armed forces and their families. Further, the foundation considers individuals, companies or organizations that have demonstrated significant support to educational and charitable endeavors that promote awareness of maritime affairs, the marine environment and its protection, maritime history, maritime commerce and other related activities to develop maritime expertise or inspire future generations of maritime service.

Chevron has been a leader in supporting the Coast Guard Foundation’s mission and policies nationwide. For more than 32 years, Chevron’s support has been critical for the foundation’s education, morale and relief programs. The company has supported programs that promote and encourage diversity, STEM programming and margin of excellence programs at the Coast Guard Academy. In addition, the company has provided significant support for the foundation’s Fallen Heroes Scholarship Fund, which allows the foundation to give full tuition scholarships to children who have lost a parent in the line of duty. Chevron is also a leading investor in the Coast Guard Foundation’s Disaster Relief Fund. In one of the greatest times of Coast Guard need in recent memory, Chevron’s contributions allowed the foundation to provide immediate support to Coast Guard families who were negatively impacted by Hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria.

In addition to the Coast Guard Foundation, Chevron supports many other humanitarian causes. In 2017 alone, Chevron donated $400,000 to support Mexico’s earthquake recovery efforts, $1 million to Hurricane Irma relief, and $500,000 for Southern California fire relief efforts. Further, Chevron is a recognized leader in providing jobs to military veterans and will work to ensure that once they join the team, veterans have a career.

“Supporting the brave men and women of the Coast Guard would not be possible without partners like Chevron,” said Susan Ludwig, president, Coast Guard Foundation. “We are so grateful for their continual efforts to make a difference in all of our lives and those that sacrifice so much for our nation. We look forward to many more years, working together with Chevron to bring aid to those in need.”

The Coast Guard Foundation’s Houston Awards Dinner will be held at the Marriott Marquis, 1777 Walker St., Houston. A cocktail reception will begin at 6:30 p.m. with dinner and the program following at 7:30 p.m.
