Doug Theobalds

For sailor Doug Theobalds it was supposed to be a simple delivery from Bermuda to Newport, R.I. aboard his friend Peter McCrea's Freedom 32 cat sloop Panacea. The passage proved anything but routine, however (see the whole story as it appeared in ON here) and this month the U.K.-based Ocean Cruising Club (OCC) announced it would award McCrea and Theobalds its 2015 Rambler Medal. The OCC judges decided to award McCrea and Theobalds the medal based on what was termed "a short voyage situation that could easily have proved fatal, but that showed resourcefulness, resilience and self-sufficiency."

The formal Awards presentation will take place during the OCC Annual Dinner and Awards Ceremony on 2nd April 2016, at the Greenlands Campus, Henley-on-Thames in the U.K.
