The dangers of running a worldwide mapping operation were made clear today. Google Maps has somehow removed the 142-square mile island of Jura on Scotland's west coast from its display database. Google is reportedly aware of the problem and is working to fix the glitch. This sudden disappearance of Jura and its 188 residents (it is one of the most sparsely populated sections of Scotland) might come as a shock to those folks headed to the island for a visit. Yet another reason voyagers should stick to dependable nautical charts when navigating!
