Soon after Chinese sailor Guo Chuan became the first for his country to sail solo nonstop around the world, an Indian sailor, Abhilash Tomy, a Lieutenant Commander in the Indian Navy, became the first Indian mariner to make a solo, nonstop passage around the globe. Tomy completed the feat aboard the 56-ft sloop INSV Mhadei.
