Actor Russell Crowe, and an unnamed friend were rescued by the Coast Guard on the shores of Huntington Bay, Long Island, NY, after getting stranded when conditions worsened Saturday night. An Eaton's Necks Station rescue vessel was flagged by the pair, who had drifted in their kayaks that afternoon (neither were injured, both were wearing lifejackets).

“It is common for the Coast Guard to assist boaters like this, but it was very cool to help Russell Crowe and his friend,” said Petty Officer 2nd Class Robert Swieciki, coxswain for this case. “Crowe and his friend were very grateful to get a lift.”

The USCG urges boaters to act as the pair did in that scenario: Call for help if conditions turn foul, especially when daylight is fading; and as always, wear a lifejacket.
