Hinckley Bermuda 50 nears completion

1 Hinckley

It’s been a decade since the Hinckley Company launched its first new sailboat, the DS 42. The new boat was at the forefront of what was to become the era of the luxury daysailer. Like its now-classic picnic boats, the Hinckley Company was ahead of its time, understood the market and delivered.

Now, nearly 50 years since the introduction of another Hinckley classic, the Bill Tripp-designed Bermuda 40, the company is introducing the Bermuda 50. Designed by Bill Tripp III, the new boat could set yet another standard in yacht design and find its place at many a starting line.

The new yacht combines modern style and high-tech systems in a light displacement carbon fiber/Kevlar composite hull and deck. A hydraulic centerboard — 6-foot draft up, 11’ 6” down — offers shoal water accessibility as well as offshore performance to windward. The yacht features a three-cabin modern layout and, while designed to be sailed by a couple, can accommodate a crew of six, making it ideal for offshore racing.
