Spectacular weather and a great turnout paired up to made this year’s Newport International Boat Show a huge success. The Newport Yachting Center’s docks and tents were filled with enthusiastic sail and power boaters intent on seeing the best of what the industry has to offer.

The new Eagle 44 daysailor, designed by Gerard Dykstra and built by Leonardo Yachts of the Netherlands was selected as “Best New Sailboat.” The boat has classic J-Class style lines with flush decks and long overhangs. State-of-the-art materials and a modern keel make for a light and powerfully competitive racer that requires little maintenance.

Good weather helped produce healthy crowds.

The “Best New Powerboat” winner was the Greenline 40, a hybrid built by Seaway Yachts of Slovenia. The owner can collect, store and use electrical energy from the sun, from the shore power pick-up or from the main engine-driven generator.

For the “Best New Boating Product” the Volvo Penta Glass Cockpit was the winner.

Acting as an extension of the Garmin GPS MAP Glass Helm Series, the Volvo Penta Glass Cockpit Series is a glass cockpit system that integrates the Volvo Penta Engine Vessel Control. The system provides options like on-screen autopilot, powertrim assist and dynamic positioning.

Other winning categories included “Best New Sailboat Under 30 Feet,” won by the J/88 by J/Boats and “Best Powerboat Under 30 Feet,” won by Southport Boats of Augusta, Maine.
