Due to ongoing problems with piracy off the coast of Africa, boats participating in the Volvo Ocean Race will be shipped from an undisclosed "safe haven" in the Indian Ocean to a point in the United Arab Emirates. The race will then continue on to Abu Dhabi, which is the end point of the second leg of the 39,000-mile race that will start in Cape Town, South Africa on December 11.

According to an article on The Australian website, the transport ship will have armed security guards to protect the cargo valued at around $100 million.
