Mysterious red lights offshore identified by Coast Guard

On April 29, A U.S. Coast Guard station in Lorain, Ohio, received numerous calls about a string of mysterious red lights observed over Lake Erie north of Sheffield Lake, OH, which is located just west of Cleveland. Observers said they had the appearance of Christmas lights. Upon contacting the Canadian Coast Guard, it was confirmed that there are numerous radio, TV, and windmill towers located on the 50+ mile distant Canadian shore, and that unusually good visibility was the reason they were being reported on the U.S. shore. Television station WIOI reported on their Web site that, "The conditions for people here to see straight across to the Canadian border has to be just perfect, and it appears that is what happened last night. The Coast Guard said they have had the same thing happen in the past, usually around this time of year."
