Atlantis WeatherGear is Official Apparel Provider for the 2011 Marblehead to Halifax Ocean Race

June 9, 2011 (MARBLEHEAD, Mass.) – Atlantis WeatherGear, America’s fastest-growing brand of apparel for sailing and the coastal lifestyle, today announced that they have signed on as Official Apparel Provider for the 34th running of the biennial Marblehead to Halifax Ocean Race on July 10th.  As always, the event will be hosted by Boston Yacht Club in Marblehead, MA and the Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron in Halifax.  This storied 363-mile race has experienced a resurgence in recent years with a steady increase in entries including some of the most high-profile ocean racing programs in the country.  In 2009, the fleet was led by the 90-footer Rambler intent on breaking the 22-year-old course record (they fell short).  In 2011, the Trans-Atlantic Race has drawn some of the maxis away from MHOR, but while the course record may not be threatened this year, there are several new players that have the potential to come close in the right conditions.

“This race is part of the fabric of the town we call home.  Not only is it a huge event in Marblehead, but it’s also a real test of the gear we make.” offered Bill Lynn, Atlantis’ CMO. “There are those who joke that you shouldn’t race to places where they don’t have umbrellas in the drinks, but the fact is that it takes a special breed to subject themselves to the kind of conditions the fleet will experience, and this is what Atlantis is designed for.”

Marblehead will play host to over 1,200 visitors from around the US and Canada in the days leading up to the start of the race, and on Race Day, the starting area will be besieged by hundreds of spectator boats forming a corridor through which the fleet will pass as they head east for Cape Sable.  While some sailors will spend their free time on boat prep, a significant number will be making their bi-annual pilgrimage to Maddie’s and The Landing, two of Marblehead’s famous sailors’ “watering holes”.  “Atlantis is a great apparel partner for the Marblehead to Halifax Race,” said Event Chair and Boston Yacht Club Vice Commodore Peter Barnet.

“Many participants in this event have relied on Atlantis gear over the years, and their new product line offers a great combination of high-quality performance and casual elegance; a combination that will keep sailors happy before, during and after the race.”   The Atlantis 2011 product line is available online at the brand new Atlantis web site (www.AtlantisWeatherGear.com) and at a variety of dealers around the country.  MHOR logo gear is available online at www.MHORgear.com and will be available on-site at Boston Yacht Club beginning July 7th.
