This July will see the first running of a new East Coast ocean race from Stonington, Conn., to Boothbay Harbor in Maine. Racers will depart from Stonington at the eastern end of Long Island Sound, pass either to the north or south of Block Island, around Nantucket Shoals and thence to the finish off Boothbay Harbor. And to further interest in the race, a trophy will be awarded for the best results of the Corinthians Stonington-to-Boothbay Harbor Race and the Marion Bermuda race.
From the press release: A new trophy for best combined results of the Marion to Bermuda, and Corinthians Stonington to Boothbay Harbor Race, will be presented at the finish of this inaugural race.
The Corinthians Stonington-to-Boothbay Harbor Race (CSBHR), also known as The Lobster Run, is a new ocean race which starts July 27, 2008. The race starts off Stonington Harbor, Connecticut and finishes outside Boothbay Harbor. The race is sponsored by Gosling’s Rums and Points East magazine.
The first presentation of this new award will follow the inaugural CSBHR and will be awarded based on low finish total of skippers who sailed in the 2007 Marion to Bermuda Race and the 2008 CSBHR.
To provide the opportunity for 2007 Marion-Bermuda skippers to compete for this new trophy, registration for the CSBHR has been extended to June 15. If you didn’t participate in the 2007 Marion Bermuda Race, you may use this race to qualify for the 2008 trophy that will be presented at the conclusion of the 2008 Marion Bermuda Race. There is not a minute to lose to sign up for this year’s race.
