West Marine to assist Pacific Cup

will continue its association with the Pacific Cup
, a 2,070-mile, biennial ocean race from San Francisco to Hawaii. This is the fifteenth running of the race, which started in 1979.
From the press release: Pacific Cup race organizers and West Marine, Inc., the country's favorite retailer of supplies and accessories, announced today that it will participate in the in the 2008 Pacific Cup race from San Francisco to Hawaii as Product Outfitter. In this role, West Marine will provide direct support in the form of outfitting discounts to entrants as well as promotional and prize support to the race organizers.
Validated entries into the Pacific Cup will receive "outfitting" discount cards, valid for defined periods. "West Marine is proud to support the Pacific Cup. Our products are designed to enhance the sailors' comfort, safety and performance," said Chuck Hawley, West Marine Vice President of Product Development. Hawley, a Pacific Cup veteran, is a life long sailor who has sailed nearly 40,000 miles.
The Pacific Cup, organized this year by the Pacific Cup Yacht Club and the Storm Trysail Club, is expected to draw up to 70 sailboats for the 2,070-mile run to Kaneohe Yacht Club in Hawaii. For many entrants, this is their first major ocean crossing. "West Marine has been a long-time supporter of the Pacific Cup," commented Lou Ickler, PCYC Commodore. "By providing support directly to the entrants, West Marine is helping make this adventure a little more possible."
