According to a
report from the BBC, the European equivalent of GPS known as Galileo is having a rough patch and will need additional funding from European governments for the system to be built. The private consortium put together to inaugurate the system is reportly having problems.
German Transport Minister Wolfgang Tiefensee (seen at right in accompanying photo), speaking on behalf of the EU, said: “Galileo is going through a deep and grave crisis. “We’re in a dead end street. The cardinal problem is that the companies still have not been able to agree on the way forward. We need to find an alternative solution.”
The private consortium consists of the cream of European aerospace and communications companies: EADS, Thales, Inmarsat, Alcatel-Lucent, Finmeccanica, AENA, Hispasat, and TeleOp.
