French yacht pirates nabbed

After the 30 crewmembers of the 288-foot French yacht Ponant were released on Friday, the French military apparently kept their eye on the roughly 12 pirates who had seized the ship. According to BBC reports, French special forces tracked the pirates to the Somali village of Jariban and then swooped in using helicopters to nab six of the pirates.

Also seized were several bags that could have contained some of the $2 million ransom reportedly paid by the French charter company CMA-CGM, which owns Ponant.

There were no passengers on board the vessel, which can accommodate up to 64 guests, when it was seized, only the 30 crewmembers.
