Clear in properly or land inside

For those Pacific voyagers who are contemplating skirting the rules for clearing in, the reported experience of voyagers in Kiribati may put you back on the straight and narrow. According to report on the web site Noonsite, two German sailors have been jailed on Butaritari Island in the Republic of Kiribati. They reportedly failed to clear in at the proper entry port and were locked up. They are said to be awaiting trial and could be fined and perhaps even lose their boat. More at Noonsite.
