Westerbeke 65A Four Nominated For Best New Diesel Engine At Newport International Boat Show

Aug 5, 2009
Taunton, MA…The Newport International Boat Show is, traditionally, the first show of the new boat season at which manufacturers launch their new sail and power boats, as well as new boating products.  Recognizing this, the Show has long identified those companies that bring their new product introductions to Newport.  And, for the past few years, the best of the new boats and products have been selected in conjunction with Cruising World, Sailing World and MotorBoating magazines.  Nominees to this year's Newport For New Products program were announced recently and include the Westerbeke 65A Four diesel engine from Westerbeke Corporation.

The new Westerbeke 65A Four, rated 68 horsepower (50.7kW) at 2600-rpm, is powered by a 4-cylinder, 3.3 liter, naturally aspirated, diesel engine.  This engine also produces a very impressive 163 lb./ft. torque at only 1400-rpm!  The 65A Four is offered with a standard 72 amp battery charging alternator, EZ-bleed fuel system, transmission oil cooler, fresh water lube oil cooler, oversized marine transmission with 1.88:1 reduction, domestic hot water connection, coolant recovery tank as well as low oil pressure and high coolant temperature alarms.

One of the five largest in-water boat shows in the country, the Newport International Boat Show covers over 15 acres along America's Cup Avenue in Newport, Rhode Island.  More than 850 exhibitors with over 700 boats ranging in size from 16 to 85 feet are expected to be on display, including express cruising yachts, racing sailboats, ocean-going trawlers at PassageMaker magazine's TrawlerPort, a Multihull Lagoon, plus DownEast styles, sport fishing boats, runabouts, kayaks, canoes and inflatables.  In addition, there are engines, sails, equipment, safety products, electronics plus thousands of accessories and marine services, as well as seminars, demonstrations and workshops.

The Show runs from Thursday, September 17 through Sunday, September 20.  Advance discount tickets are available on line thru September 16th.  Tickets purchased at the show on Thursday, VIP Day, are $27.00…$24 on-line.  On Friday, Saturday and Sunday the tickets are $18.00…$15 on-line.  Children under 12 are free every day when accompanied by an adult.  For more information, call 401-846-1115 or 800-582-7846 or visit our web site at www.newportboatshow.com.
