Furuno offers free MaxSea software
MaxSea and Furuno have just released MaxSea
Planner, which allows you to plan your voyages from your land-based computer. The new demo product is a free two disk set containing the planning software on one disk and the full NOAA raster chart library for the entire U.S. on the other disk.
So whatâs the catch? Well, the software cannot be used for actual navigation, just planning. It does make it easy to see the features and benefits of the real software and contains âthe majority of the functions of the full MaxSea software,â the company says. It employs a simplified tool bar to make it easier to get started but it wonât interface with a GPS directly. You can transfer your waypoints and routes from the planner version to an SD (Secure Digital) memory card and then save them onto your Furuno NavNet vx2 plotter.
Features of MaxSea Planner include unlimited storage of waypoints and routes, route plan information, unlimited waypoint layers, and printable chart and route plans. When you decide that you want to go from MaxSea Planner to a full version of MaxSea, there is an easy upgrade available. You can get your copy of the free MaxSea Planner at an upcoming boat show or from any of Furunoâs authorized dealers
. As the company points out, this is a good opportunity to try this high-end navigation software on the market before taking the plunge.
