From Ocean Navigator #122 May/June 2002

To the editor: At Windpilot, we appreciated seeing the recent article on wind vane self-steering ("Elegant and efficient," Issue 120, March/April 2002) in Ocean Navigator. We would, however, like to correct a few omissions.

Our website was not included in the article, and we'd like to invite readers to visit our huge site at www.windpilot.com. It offers a vast amount of information about self-steering under sail, with thousands of pictures, product comparison tables, films etc., all of it in six languages.

The book Self-Steering Under Sail, published from Adlard Coles/London in cooperation with International Marine Publishing, is available via Kelvin Hughes in the U.K., www.kelvinhughes.com, or directly from Windpilot, www.windpilot.com.

The book covers the theory and practice of all kinds of self-steering, autopilots and vane gear. It discusses the pros and cons of this type of equipment and provides addresses and websites of the players in this field.

Peter Foerthmann is president of Windpilot autopilots.
