Satellites link yacht positions to shore

A new web-based program that is just getting started in cyber-space allows operators of yachts fitted with an Inmarsat C or Inmarsat D+ system to link with shore-based family and friends.

Worldcruising.net, which at press time included only a handful of subscribers, uses geostationary satellites to automatically track position reports from enrolled yachts. The web site displays the given positions superimposed on a chart of the area.
