Newfoundland flotilla sails in June

A yacht flotilla celebrating the Viking arrival in Newfoundland in the year 1000 will sail in June from Toronto, Ont., to L’Anse Aux-Meadows, Newfoundland. Vessels participating in the flotilla will leave Mimico Cruising Club in Toronto on June 10 and will sail down the St. Lawrence River with stops at Kingston, Ont., Quebec City, and other ports along the North and South shores of the river.

First landfall in Newfoundland will be at Cornerbrook, where sailors venturing north from the U.S. are invited to join. Yachts will then sail up the west coast of Newfoundland and across the Straits of Belle Isle to Red Bay, Labrador, and then on to L’Anse Aux-Meadows. The celebration will take place at L’Anse Aux-Meadows, Newfoundland, on July 26, 2000.
