Navigator snags first celestial certificate

Joseph Kliment is a 61-year-old retired environmental engineer from Middletown, Del., who has sailed more than 20,000 miles offshore and now spends his time as a yacht delivery captain. He is also the first recipient of the soon-to-be coveted Celestial Certification offered by Ocean Navigator.

Kliment offered his three-star fix, which he reduced on a recent delivery from Charleston, S.C., to Road Town, Tortola, for review by ON instructor Andy Howe. Howe declared his work complete and offered the certificate, which aside from bragging rights affords the opportunity to serve as navigator on Marion Bermuda Race boats.
