The first Australian syndicate to enter the Volvo Ocean Race, until recently known as the Whitbread, will be supported by a 300-foot fast ferry catamaran that will record progress of the team for an IMAX film.
Australia’s OCEANIC syndicate will sponsor two entries in the Volvo Race, both Farr-designed 60-footers. The jet-powered cat will follow the two yachs underway and at port stops to also serve as a promotion and support vessel. The Volvo Ocean Race Round the World will depart Southampton, UK, in Sept. 2001.
