Cruising Rules

Cruising Rules Relationships at Sea

by Roland Sawyer Barth

Anyone who has sailed for an extended period with another person will relate to the message of Barth’s Cruising Rules. The book is a humorous collection of shipboard rules that the author and a cruising friend established over many years of sailing together.

The rules, all listed with origins that are explained in the book, were meant to help Barth and his friend co-habitate successfully aboard a small boat. For example, "The hand that holds the paintbrush determines the color." Or, "The rightful resting place for every piece of equipment on board is at the bottom of the sea."
